Detailed Itinerary
5 Days & 4 Nights verified travel itinerary
Begin your journey with an early morning pick-up from Dehradun, where you will meet your fellow trekkers and guide. Embark on a breathtaking drive into the Garhwal Himalayas via Mussoorie, Kempty Falls, Nainbagh, and Purola, following the winding Tons River. Reach Sankri, a picturesque high-altitude village that serves as the basecamp for numerous Himalayan treks. Check into your hotel/homestay and rest after the drive. In the evening, explore the peaceful village, admire traditional wooden houses, and interact with welcoming locals. Enjoy a warm dinner and trek briefing.
Start your trek after an energizing early breakfast. The trail winds through dense pine and oak forests with occasional sightings of Himalayan birds and wildlife. As you ascend, the forest floor turns golden or blanketed in pure white snow during winter months. Arrive at Juda Ka Talab—a pristine high-altitude lake surrounded by towering pine trees that freezes during peak winter, or Hargaon campsite with lush alpine meadows. Enjoy a delicious hot lunch at camp. Spend the afternoon relaxing and absorbing the deep silence of the mountains. Dinner and overnight stay in alpine dome tents under a canopy of stars.
After breakfast, gear up for the climb toward Kedarkantha Basecamp. The tree line gradually recedes, revealing open rolling snowfields and meadows adorned with alpine vegetation. Towering snow peaks come into dramatic view, including Bandarpoonch, Swargarohini, and Kalanag. Arrive at Kedarkantha Basecamp nestled at 11,250 ft, surrounded by glistening snow expanses. Enjoy a hot lunch and spend the day acclimatizing to the thinner air, practicing snow walking techniques, and preparing equipment (microspikes/gaiters) for the early morning summit push.
Rise early before dawn (around 3:30 AM to 4:00 AM) and begin the final push to Kedarkantha Summit with headlamps. Trek through rocky ridges and steep snow-covered slopes as the first golden rays of sunlight paint the snowy peaks in fiery hues. Reach the summit at 12,500 ft, where a sacred stone shrine of Lord Shiva stands watch. Soak in the jaw-dropping 360-degree panorama of the Greater Himalayas stretching into Himachal and Tibet. Descend back to the basecamp for a celebratory hot lunch, then continue descending to Juda Ka Talab or Hargaon campsite through the mesmerizing wilderness. Savor dinner and celebrate your successful summit.
After breakfast, say goodbye to the serene peaks and begin your downhill trek to Sankri village through familiar pine-scented trails. Arrive in Sankri by late morning/noon, where private mountain vehicles await to drive you back toward Dehradun. Reflect upon the unforgettable memories of snow peaks, starlit camps, and the summit climb. Arrive in Dehradun by evening (around 7:00 PM), concluding an epic Himalayan adventure.
